Get ready to return to Infernax with the help of a co-op buddy!

Gory Metroidvania 'Infernax' Will Gain Local Co-op This Spring

Infernax quickly became my single-player game of the year when it launched in early 2022. The game's dark gothic atmosphere, morality system, and excellent retro graphics all made for an extremely memorable Metroidvania platformer - as detailed in our Beyond Co-op review. While the solo experience was undoubtedly special, Infernax wil...

Co-Op Monthly Round-Up for February 2023

We are all for choice here at Co-Optimus. Let the customer decide what they want we say! But to be perfectly honest? We do think ININ Games took it a bit too far this month with the various Ninja JaJaMaru compilations. Was it really necessary to offer so many versions with only slightly different content? Oh well, it is what it is. At least retro fans can finally enjoy the adventures of "Ninja Kid" on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. PC users, on the other hand, finally got the promised wave of Toaplan-Shoot'em-Up-Goodness courtesy of publisher Bitwave Games: Out Zone, Twin Cobra, Zero Wing and Truxton (no co-op) all hit the Steam store this month.

Monster Hunter for the Fortnite generation

Wild Hearts Impressions and Stream Recap

Over the past 20 years, there have been a number of action-RPG titles that fall in line with the reductive/encompassing idea of "Monster Hunter-like." The latest entry into this field - Wild Hearts - comes from Koei Tecmo and Omega Force and published by Electronic Arts, and it shows a lot of promise... if it can just get out of its own way.

VR gamers will get to cross swords in offline solo mode or hop online for co-op!

VR Roguelite 'Swords of Gargantua' Relaunching on Steam and Meta Quest in March

Sometimes a game gets updated so much that it's almost like a fresh new game. No, we're not talking about Warframe! This time, SWORDS of GARGANTUA, the virtual reality "sword combat simulator" from Gumi and Thirdverse will get the relaunch treatment. The game will relaunch with a new offline mode (always a welcome/obvious feature) and other enhancements in March.

Get ready to roll with friends once again, this time on multiple consoles and PC!

Co-op Katamari to Return with 'We Love Katamari Reroll Plus Royal Reverie'

After the success of Katamari Damacy on PlayStation 2, Bandai Namco needed something special to differentiate the sequel. They landed on co-op, and thus, We Love Katamari was born. Seeing as how 2020's Katamari Damacy Reroll successfully brought the first game to modern platforms, it's only fitting that We Love Katamari Reroll Plus Royal Reverie will now do the same for the second game. The new remake will roll onto Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam this June, complete with 2-player local co-op.

Ramping up!

Co-Op Monthly Round-Up for January 2023

January was a bit on the quiet side in terms of co-op titles - at least compared to other months. So in the end there were still more than enough titles released to keep everyone and their friends occupied. A couple of examples: Shoot'em up fans got Wings Of Bluestar as well as Raiden IV x MIKADO remixMonster Hunter Rise finally hit Microsoft and Sony consoles, retro gamers rejoiced upon the release of the Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection, the unique survival-platformer Rain World received a co-op DLC and strategy fans can now enjoy Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on Xbox (both using a controller or connecting keyboard/mouse).

Fifteen years ago we embarked on a journey. Frustrated with the state of information about cooperative games in the renaissance of online gaming, we set out to catalog all of the important bits of information about non-competitive multiplayer. On January 28th, 2008 Co-Optimus was born.

Action-Tower Defense Game 'VooDolls' Coming to Steam in April, Closed Beta Starts Soon

Tower defense games are fun enough, but things really heat up when players get to hop into the action instead of just commanding from the sidelines.
